This book is being published to meet the needs of women and families who are thinking of becoming pregnant or who are pregnant and want to know about pregnancy in New Zealand. Chapters will introduce prospective parents to pregnancy, tell how to prepare for and then stay healthy during pregnancy and suggest ways in which couples can be fully involved in their pregnancy and achieve a natural birth. It will also look at the early postnatal period. The book will discuss the maternity system in New Zealand, the choices for care, the tests on offer and decisions to be made. While New Zealand focused, the book will use all available evidence including practice experience and scientific evidence. The book will concentrate on promoting health during pregnancy and will provide information that will assist women to achieve a natural birth and a healthy experience.

The primary authors are Ann Noseworthy and Jacques Rousseau. Ann is a lecturer in midwifery and a practising midwife. Jacques Rousseau is an Exercise Physiologist who has experience in prescribing exercise for many different situations. He is a Lecturer and Programme Manager for Exercise Science at Massey University
