Elwyn's farm later became Pukaha Mount Bruce, New Zealand's National Wildlife Centre. This charming story won the Mitre 10 Takahe Rescue short story competition.

Author description

Ali Foster works as a teacher aide and adult literacy tutor in Masterton. She has written three successful picture books with a Wairarapa flavour, including The Eels of Anzac Bridge, Fraser Books, 2012 and A beam of Bright Light - the journey of a lighthouse, Wai Art Press 2013. Viv Walker trained in graphic design at Norwich School of Art, England. Along with her illustration, she runs a design business and teaches art classes. Viv is the illustrator of all of Ali's books and is based in Carterton.
